What needs a different service

Not everything with six legs and a trail is a job for a general ant treatment.

  • Carpenter ants are a different job. They nest in wood rather than soil, so the treatment targets the nest and the galleries instead of the trail. They have their own page and their own approach.
  • Fire ants live in mounds out in the yard and sting. Broadcast bait and mound work are not the same as treating a kitchen trail, so they are handled separately.
  • Termites are not ants, although the swarmers look similar enough to fool most people. Termite swarmers have straight antennae, a waist with no pinch, and four wings of equal length. If that is what you found, you need the termite programme, not this one.

Ant pressure through the North Texas year

Ants come indoors for two reasons: water and food. Which one is driving it changes with the season, and so does where we treat.

Spring is when colonies wake up and start foraging, and it is the most common time to see a trail appear along a countertop or skirting board seemingly overnight.

Summer heat and drought push ants toward moisture, which is why kitchens and bathrooms get busy in July and August even in a spotless house. After a heavy storm the opposite happens and they move in to get out of saturated soil.

Autumn and winter are quieter outside, but a colony that established itself in a wall void during summer will keep foraging indoors all winter. That is the situation a single spray never fixes.

Ant control by city

Pest pressure is not the same in every town we serve. These pages cover what is specific to each one — the housing stock, the soil, and what that means for treatment.

Ant Control Questions

Why does spraying the trail make it worse?

A contact spray kills the ants you can see and signals the colony to split and relocate, which is why a single trail often becomes two a week later. Reaching the colony rather than the trail is the whole game.

Carpenter ants are the exception on this list. They are a wood-destroying insect rather than a nuisance ant, they nest in damp timber, and they need a different treatment. See carpenter ant control.

Which ants are common in North Texas?

Odorous house ants, pavement ants, acrobat ants, carpenter ants and, outdoors, fire ants. They want different things and respond to different treatment, so identifying which you have changes the approach.

How long before they are gone?

A well-targeted treatment usually shows a clear drop within a week or two, because the point is to let foragers carry it back rather than to kill on contact. Seeing ants for a few days after treatment is normal and generally a sign it is working.
